I've seen cows do that. It's like they don't know there is anything behind their eyes. I was hunting pronghorn in eastern Colorado when I was walking down a one car road, it was very narrow. There were cows around which is very common and even expected. Usually as one approaches the cows they wander away or, being curious critters, they might follow you. This one afternoon I guess I was totally intimidating in my Elmer Fudd outfit and a cow panicked and ran up hill and jumped over a barbed wire fence. It was astounding. The power required to get a thousand pounds of prime beef up hill and over a fence is enormous. It was a Steve McQueen cow.
They can jump but I think this one may still be true.
