I want to provide a means of balancing right and left if I need to. My thought is to provide some Additional attenuation in one of the channels to use if i need it.
For a pot I will use an Alps blue velvet, not sure what to use for the 'balance' pot
I would love to hear the groups thoughts on my balance control

Why not just use a single volume pot for each channel and adjust as necessary? Otherwise, no, you need a proper balance control. That one of yours will not work if the other channel is louder.
I avoided all this with a very simple solution: I use concentric shafts potentiometers, the type most often used in controlling levels on a tape deck for recording.
I use 50K log but have used 100K with no problems.
