Does anyone know if a Creative Xfi Xtreme Music could be modded to get an i2s output?? What I'm trying to do is mod one of my Marantz cd67s to accept a digital input and use it as a DAC with my PC. I'm pretty sure the saa7345gp in my cd67 will take an i2s input. But I'm not sure how I will get the I2s out of my PC. I was hoping I could somehow mod my creative Xfi to output i2s, if not I will have to go for one of the usb->i2s converters. So this is really two projects, get the cd67 to accept a digital input, and get a suitable digital output from my PC. Any ideas? Is this even possible??
thanks

Presumably you can tap something from the input to the dac on the soundcard but be aware in may not be I2S. Two small problems though,
1. According to the s/m the CD67 has the SAA7372 not the SAA7345. Either way neither has an I2S input.
2. The dac is in one clock domain and the soundcard is in another. You will have to find some way of bridging them.
It can be done but you will have to decide if it is worth the effort. For a start, is it worth wrestling with I2S when the card already has digital i/o ?
I think it depends on what X-fi you have
I believe the elite pro has separate dacs, the others don't.
The multi dac (cheap versions 😱 ) would be nasty to extract the i2s from.

Ok so getting I2s from the Xfi that I have is not gonna be easy. The usb-i2s converter will be much easier. Now the problem is how do add an input to my cd67?? Am i right that the saa7372 decoder chip outputs an i2s signal to the DAC from pins 45,46,48 to pins 19,20,12 on the dac? Would it be possible to just take my i2s signal and send it to the dac?? Or does it need to go to the decoder first??
thanks
