Ok,
This solution just got more perfect. Check out this spec sheet. http://www.gelighting.com/eu/downloads/prod_data/hid/cmh_150w_g12_en.pdf

It says they are powered by standard metal halide ballasts which are way cheaper than hqi ballasts. Also GE offers these bulbs which to me means they are easier and more than likely cheaper to get. I will try to find a price some place. Yeah but everyone please post the ups and downs you see with this because most of you know more about it all than me.

And??!?!?!?!?! God forbid you have a low electricity bill... If it can output about 1000 lumens more than a 150 hqi it seems like it would be of use. I saw the results of a few people using 150w hqi and they looked really good..

YAHHH thats more of the response i was expecting, Yeah my current screen is only about 5-6 feet diag, and the largest i ever plan to go is most likely 14 feet diag. So hopefully this will work for my current setup. And no unfortunatly this is the newest metal halide bulb, so they dont have anything higher than 150w. I found the story behind them earlier this morning, if i find the link again I will post it. Im guessing they will come out with higher watters later on. But considering its size the arc should be pretty small and efficient. Now i just need to find a holder and cheap REGULAR metal halide ballast.

Oh trust me i will (post pics). But now i have to find a cheap, quiet, ballast. I think it can be used with normal 150watt ballasts, any recommendations? I also need to find a holder, i havent seen any around and wouldnt know where to look.

heres an article about MH.

I think this bulb is very good for retrofitting a commercial projector. Poohbear aren't you going to use this for your commericial projector? We need more information on this bulb and where can we get the ballast.

Well 150W is pretty good considering it size. It will save electricity and 13,000 initial lumen is pretty decent for a commericial projector which the lcd screen isn't that big.

Poohbear i think this light is great for your commericial projector.

The bulb is ballast-compatible with 150W single & double ended HQI bulbs. The cylidrical shape in the middle is the ceramic burner. All info is also in the specs at Philips. (I've posted links to that on more than one occasion so I wont bother to find it again, even a simple search for /942 or hqi-t on this forum should get you there.)
Pro's of this bulb: compact, constant color temp, no need for fancy cooling
Negative: 'low' lumen output at 150W.
Dont wait for a 250W version: the ceramic containers are made up of several parts and 'glued' together. My guess is that the joints will break at higher power. (Same goes for the osram/sylvania hqi-c with a round ceramic burner).

If you want to buy a bulb or ballast for it then try a search on e-bay.de
Looking at the prices in the US the shipping costs will be lower than the price diff.

Yeah this bulb does cost a little more, Im sure it can be found for cheaper elsewhere. I know yellertwo offers it for about 40$, and thats how much i saw it for other places. Rapsac: you actually have this bulb? What are you using it for? Is it really only 3.5 inches long? And what ballast and holder are you using?
