What sort of performance change might there be if individual bias to the power finals were used. I think the CCS offers the useful opportunity to ground the 'grid' resistors( and avoid the need for a positive bias supply ), but in the interest of avoiding a big CCS in the 'cathode' it seems a reasonable simplification.
