Portable dvd monitors

Question ;-Is it possible to use lcd screens from portable DVD players.
There seems to be a large number of these players around (ebay etc.) with decent size screens 5inches to 10 inches selling at fairly low prices.
I was wondering what the pros and cons are of stripping and adaptability of these sceens were.

I don't have any first hand experience with portable DVD player LCDs, but I have seen a couple used for projectors. The major shortcomings of those screens are:

1. they typically have very low resolution, much lower than a 7" lilliput. Most only have 240 horizontal lines and blown up that will probably not look very good.

2. many do not have external inputs (composite, s-video, etc.). This is the same reason that laptop LCDs don't work well for modding into a projector.

I know portable DVD player LCDs are inexpensive and nice & small, but I recommend going with a stripped 15" computer monitor or something like a lilliput if size is a concern. The resulting picture quality will be much better with either. If you're only looking to project onto a small screen (50" or less) then there are smaller, less expensive alternatives (2-4" LCDs) that are known to be strippable, provide a similar resolution and have inputs on them.

Hope this helps. Cheers.
