Is a POLY corne ok for sub ?

It's not what you make it out of that counts, it's how you make it. Dayton Titanic sub drivers, for instance, are very well respected and they use poly cones.

Some poly is okay but it is generally thought that paper/fiber is better for a sub for a few reasons. It is better damped than poly and can be made thicker for increased strength without the mass of a similar poly. It also lacks the higher freq breakup modes of some poly cones when driven at high spl levels.

It's treated paper, not polymer.

It's actually kevlar-impregnated paper on the new Titanics but on the first-generation Titanic drivers the cone was indeed poly.

Touche. MKII and MKIII both use the composite (paper) cone. I guess they felt the name was too good to change when moving from poly to paper. 😉

Paradigm Monitor series uses clear, see through, poly cones for its bass drivers and get good reviews. So poly cones can be good.
