There has been discussion by the mods about closing the Peace thread, but the concensus at the moment is that there would be a lot of flak for doing that. Peter has closed the Canadian/American thread already, and i think that this sets a precedent we can use. If a thread turns into another "Peace" thread we will close it, and people can vent in the official thread.
If you do not like the discussion, or would just rather spend your time elsewhere, just don't go there. That's what i'm doing (fortuneatly i have some good mods who are willing to keep an eye on the thread or that wouldn't be an option for me).
If it is clear that the majority of people would like the thread closed we will. if we find that the subject keeps popping up elsewhere we will reopen it.

Once again the General turns to his loyal servant "Smith, I don't like the sound of those drums".
At which point all goes quiet and a Zulu pops up from behind bush not 50 yards distant - "It's not our regular drummer".

We don't take volunteers (that is not meant as encouragement to do something to earn it), but if you would like to not post for 2 weeks that is up to you.
It is obviously a morph job. But it is still an image of a semi-clad female giving 2 guys a hand job. The fact that the heads are of famous people makes it no less porn.
The rule is very clear, and the violation was also clear. No past or future good behavior mitigates that violation.
Kids vist this site, and i would not want a mom to walk in and see that image on the kid's screen.

I certainly do not defend porn or posting links to it on this site...the point is however that some decision making seems a little too "textbook" and in this context it has a tendency to make matters worse.
In this particular case, had the poster in question been malicious it would have justified the action taken.
However it was meant as a joke, a perhaps desperate attempt to take the heat out of the discussion and as such it can be seen as a form of moderation.
From that point of view, simply moving the offending cartoon to Texas accompanying it with a warning to the poster would have done nicely IMO.
In the not so distant past much worse verbal discussion was and still is going on and little action is taken against it.
All this makes it seem inconsistent to the eye of the public, hence my objection to the measures taken..

I have to agree with what is being said about anti-americanism here. It seems to be the popular trend to bash us. I have purposefully stayed out of the arguments, because I don't think there is any need to discuss world events on an audio forum. There are plenty of other places to talk about it on the net. As far as the porn goes- joke or not, it is offensive to some. Is there a need for it on an audio forum? It seems to me that all this BS is a total waste of time and server space. Why do you all feel the need to have space for other topics on this audio board? All it seems to be is create tension. There is enough of that already. Why not throw out all non-audio posts, and get down to business here? Make a rule that says this is an AUDIO board, and ban all off topic discussion. Now, that would be moderation with a purpose, and eliminate all the nonsense and leave no room for moderator judgement! Is it about audio?- no? Then bye bye! A simple rule with no room for debate. Just my opinion.
