I have a deal on a Polaroid Polaview 90.

specs are:
Projectionsystem 1 x 6,5 LCD TFT Panel
Ansi-Lumen 300
Contrast 100:1
Resolution VGA 640 x 480
Videosignals NTSC, NTSC 4.43,PAL (incl. PAL- M, N)
Format 4:3
Lamp 410 W, 82Volt Halogen (+/- 20euro)
Focus manual
No zoom
Audio 2 x 3W stereo
Aansluitingen: D-sub 15pin in
Chinch Video in
S-Video in

Does anybody know the quality of this projector?

and may it be possible to put a HQI lamp in it (with external ballast etc.)?

- 100:1 contrast is VERY LOW.
- You can make your own projector from scratch and have it brighter then 300 ansi lumens
- VGA at those specs would SUCK to be honest. In my opinion DIY LCD's shouldn't be made under XGA resolution, and you shouldn't even think of buying a commercial projector thats not at least XGA. (I know I'm gonna hear it for that one from you little DIY unit guys lol but it's the truth!)
- As for fitting an HQI bulb into it... unless someone has this projector and opened it... theres no way of knowing for sure.

You would get better results building one yourself from the ground up.

yeah i know i'd have better results with a diy projector but i can get this thing for 150 euro and i think that is a fine price 🙂

btw i'm going to build a diy projector with a 7" lilliput anyway but it will be months before i have the time for it.

owh and about the resolution, more then svga is bull **** for movies because dvd resolution is lower anyway.

yeah i could do that, but then i'd need a good OHP to make it a nice projection.. and that would cost +/- 100 euro extra and it would take much more space which i dont have in my room... 🙁

so i think i'm going to buy the polaview.
this is not the end station for me 😉 it's just the beginning 😀

i have one more question.. (not about this projector)

a projector that has a metal halide 150w lamp, and such a lamp costs 200 euro for that projector. Can you put a normal (cheap) metal halide 150w lamp in it?
