Re: That's my opinion...
This misnomer has been circulating since the AC30 came out. The Orange is 7W class A (and they say that in the specs).praga37 said:the Orange Tiny Terror; a 17 w class A single channel of pure British tone
Hello Brian
Im in process of building a SS am with fet preamp, and TDA7294 power section, i used runoffgroove (thor) and Ericks corners (JCM800 emulation) ideas and i got some results.
I used thor with a tone stack aded after the first two stages like in the marshall schematic, i put some gain down to get a very clean sound on low gain setings, i maded some modifications to taste and runed the circuit at 15v.
Fet preamp gives nice clean and semi-clean tube-like tone, at this point you can run a TS or a fuzz with nice results, but if you turn the gain up with the pedal on, maybe you wont gonna like the sound, it becomes little harshy.
Bassically using thor as a preamp it gives a great result, from clean to hi overdrived, a single channel worked fine for me cos i can get clean and overdrived tones, the point is, FET can give you great tone for both channels!
Give it a try to clean fet channel using just the first two stages of the thor or the two first stages of the flipster with its full range.
Have fun
