I was wondering what would be the result of running two different lengths of speaker cable. I have two sets of DH labs, one set is 8 feet long and the other is 6 feet long. I wanted to biwire a some paradigm studio 100's but did not want to cut down the 8 foot pair, since they are professionally terminated. A couple of questions for those you have time.
1. Would the two feet of cable difference have any effect?
2. If I cut the 8' down to match the 6' pair, what would be the best way to run them? Bi-wire or shotgun?

Too difficult to assess remotely - too many variables involved.
Use your ears. If you cannot tell it doesn't matter.
If you are biwiring and can separate the pairs you could use one 6' and one 8' on each speaker. At least that way the two would be balanced.

dont worry about resistance. i would worry a bit about time smear.
anyway use the longer cable on the speaker that is closer to you. that would compensate.

Do you hounestly believe that you could hear the delay caused by a cable that's a few feet longer????

you will surprised. try it. use a simple 2 way monitor speaker with acoustic music or instrumentless vocals. or solo piano. my BIL is better at this than I.

Although the electrons in wire travel slower than the pace of the average snail, the electricity flows much faster; by most accounts, nearly the speed of light, though I've heard some people say as slow as 1/3 the speed of light.
So! Let's assume that your cable #1 is, oh, 2 meters long, and the other is, hmm, 3 meters long.
distance = rate * time
time = distance / rate
time_3 = 3 meters / (299,792,458 m/s) = .000000010006922855944561487267301434248 seconds
time_2 = 2 meters / (299,792,458 m/s) = .0000000066712819039630409915115342894984 seconds
and in order to hear a 3 dB difference in those speeds, you would have to hear sounds as high as about 3 Mhz. Sorry, I don't think you can hear the difference. 🙂
Right now I'm using a pair of Spirit Absolute 2 monitors that I love dearly; one cable is 10 feet and the other is 20 feet, and I can't tell the difference at all. At some point I really think it is just psychological effects, and double-blind testing would prove it. 🙂
