Does someone recognise this transistor it looks like is has to be a 2sa821
but that is a small signal high voltage to-92 transistor so obviously this is a different type and i might be able to get four of these gold pin beauty's
So does someone have some data or a datasheet for this device?
The markings are are a821 and w298
Thanks.

The alternative would be MPSA or MPSW821 but neither exists to my knowledge. It seems to be a custom house-marked part. Where did you get it?
The numbers don't mean anything to me but Motorola used to put an 8 amp darlington in that package before it long went obsolete. If that's what it is you wouldn't want to listen to it. Try measuring the beta. If it's in the 1000's then that's what it is. MJE6045/42 Unfortunately the gold plate doesn't mean anything. It's similar to the way they used to put cast aluminum covers on the old 10MB disk drives. They eventually stated stamping them out of sheet metal, but the drives now hold hundreds of GB and are a hundred times more reliable.

Other transistor 2n3677
I got it from a friend of mine who found a couple of these devices at school.
I shall try to get some data from the teachers at his school.
But thanks anyway
Oh and by the way, he also found a few 2n3677 transistors.
Can somebody tell me it exect purpose.
It is a very small metal can type transistor in a TO-46 package
It seems to have a very low hfe am i correct?
So could this one be useful in a headphone amp?
Thanks

The 2n3677 was a very specialised switching/chopping device. The Vbeo is unusually high.
As an amplifier it is a disaster, low gain and slow
