Please help me to fix my Technics SL-P777

Yes and yes, but I prefer trying to solve this publicly for any other user facing this problem.
LE: on the right side it would be the drawer. If so, it means - knowing that the spindle motor is well positioned - that the mobile part is not lifted enough in play mode.

At this point i have no idea what else to do ...

i dont think this mechanism can be so sensitive to assembly ..

here is some more photos maybe you see something i dont .....
the loading mechanism works very smootly its all lubricated

Hi,

Service Manual of P990 shows: right - gold; left - black; back - silver.

Regards,
Cosmin

Hi

Thanks
Yes i have try that combination what certain is the silver goes to the back for sure than i have to install the gold to the right and the black to the left oposite what you sent me or what the manual shows for the P990 ( i also check that service manual) this way i have the most clearance.

but still touching the disk but plays the tracks....

Hey !!

I came to the conclusion i like to enjoy this fine CD player instead of working on it so came up with a fix i had to find something to bring up that one spring height just a little so i have more clearance for the disc.

i mean it was playing but it was rubbing here and there and it should not !!

So i find a rubber band it was too thick but i managed to cut it down with a wire clipper under magnification.

Success!!!

it raised it just enough it wont rubb/touch no more i am OCD so i did not want to (fix it ) this way but its ok !

Now its playes fine !

What i like about this player is its superfast going over tracks and everything the new cd players just cant compare!!

And it was working fine prior so i just did not want to just throw it to the side.

When i was looking for a fix I did look up some cheaper cd players with same mechanism and i find a Technisc SL-P150 looks like its in great shape i purchased it .

In worst case i have something to compare it to and if i fix the one i have i will have a back up it should be here in couple days i will post some picture...

Below is some picture of the so called (repair)

I still dont understand this with the springs when i removed them i did not pull on them or pressed them or deform them any way but somehow this black one is lost its strenght or something .....kind of a mistery!🙂

Iomis thank you for your help!!

Hello, John,

Nice to hear that your P777 is playing normally again. Considering solution, I'm thinking that the original rubber cushion which the spring rests on caused the problem. Problably when you put back the spring and the screw it slipped deeper or became more compressed. Anyway, is solved for now - you must be aware of the life expectancy of a rubber band, it will turn into some sort of goo and stick to the cushion and spring or will become brittle.
There's nothing to thank me for, solution is entirely yours, actually I thank you for pointing at the color coded springs and making me change the belt in my player.

Best regards, happy holidays,
Cosmin

Hi

There is no rubber cushion the spring sits on the plastic and tightened down with the bolt.
The rubber you see in the schematic is for side vibration damping .

But check this out i got this respond in an other forum called "audiokarma.org"
From a well respected member i asked hes advice and he just got back to me now very interesting!

I asked him days ago before i knew what spring goes where this is the respond i got.

"You should be able to detect a difference in the tension of the springs, I have always been able to do that. If you can't try placing each spring on a flat surface and stack pennies or dimes on top of them and watch how they compress. Put a ruler behind the spring and see how many pennies it takes to compress it, say, 1/16". then try it with the other springs. The heavier side of the mechanism has to get the stiffer springs. Once you figure out what spring goes where, If it still sags, you can stretch the springs on the sagging side. Be gentle and only stretch a little at a timer until you have it stretched by maybe 1/8". Use a ruler."

What do you think?🙂🙂

Well ...no one else cared to respond to my question but YOU did ! And i thank you for that!

And over 500 views and no one has a technics sl-p777 to help me with then spring?
Well whatever!

I do agree about the rubber band is gonna disintegrate overtime that is why i am not happy about this solution for the problem but if i do what the other guy suggest to stretch out the spring i am not crazy about that fix either because it will gonna sagg down over time too?

What i need is something more firm less chance to disintegrate over time, a longer spring would be the ideal solution , or a small metal ring some kind to take up the place of the rubber band.

May i ask how old are you if you dont mind? I am 43.

Hi,

46. We're getting off-topic, even off-forum...
I think we're talking of 1-2 mm thickness. Cardboard or plastic (PTFE, PVC) will be fine, easy to cut out.
🙂You added too much solder on spindle motor's pins that's why is heavier that side 🙂.
Anyway, problem is solved, I'm glad if you consider I helped a little.

Regards,
Cosmin

LE: Is possible that one of the ribbon cable to be somehow miss-wired and pulling down the sledge in play position? They seem rigid enough to do that.
