Going to do two with 15" drivers. Really like the Micro Marty with the rss390ho. Will be pushing them with a Crown xls1502. Amp can be upgraded at a later date but for now would like to stick to that. The lowest HPF is at 30hz. I have some sub eq on the AVR. Usage will be 60/40 music to theater. Most models with 15" drivers seem so close to me so looking for guidance from much more experienced builders than me. Not looking for brown note capabilities but would like to bridge the gap between music and theater as much as possible while maintaining as much musical fidelity as possible.
I ran 2 RSS390HFs in a desicated theater until a recent upgrade. I thought they were great drivers for the money and would have been plenty accurate for music. I know the HO is different, but should produce similar results in the right enclosure.
If you want REAL subs - Small sealed and massive articulate output.

Ideally you want the driver's Fs to be ~ a half octave below the HPF, so spot on with the 390, ditto the rest of its specs for your app other than my gripe with using 4 ohm rather than 8 ohm or higher to keep thermal power compression/distortion low when being driven hard down low.

That particular driver looks capable to be sure, just not willing to drop that much on a first project. Mostly looking at the Dayton line of 15" offerings. Not really looking at the 18" stuff mostly due to my own, maybe, misconception of a driver that big being able to cleanly handle my preferred music type.
I have used the 15"hf but in a horn so can't comment on it in another alignment. I can say that the 12“ hf is brilliant and durable in a large sealed enclosure so I'd expect good things from the 15 hf as well sealed. The 12" vented is as expected, not as accurate with music. Since you are doing double duty, music and movies, I'd make a ported cab and devise a way to plug the ports for music. Best of both worlds. That's what I did with my 12's. Personally I'd stick with the hf, but the ho may be great as well, I haven't used it. It has been my impression that it is geared more towards car audio? With emphasis on small cabinet at the expense of some fidelity. Good luck, Craig
Would I be better served with the 390hf in a sealed box say around 4-5 cubic feet. No HPF is nice. At what wattage would I reach Xmax?
That sounds about right, but you should use winisd and play with the sims yourself. Comparing the sealed and vented alignments may convince you to go ported for movies with the low stuff and with plugs in the ports for music. The box sizes recommend on the parts express website are often too small fyi.

Would I like to do that!! I have some crazy ideas I could spend a week straight looking at data. Really want to check out multiple driver cabs, horns etc. Don't have a PC at home, yes I know! That is why I am kind sticking to what look like the more proven designs.
