I've never done "real" home theater, but for surrounds, isn't omni what you want? Also usually you don't need (or even want?) HF in the surround. High frequencies fall off the fastest, and our localization system works best around 1-2 KHz, if I recall, plenty low into the midrange.
Finally, just speculating about Bose, but apply to any mass market item. Yes, they may use cheap components, but you are buying a mass-produced unit expertly engineered for the very peak of performance with the materials used. With Bose you probably get the best $100 worth of parts for $1000 that money can buy 😀
