Hi, i am new here and i entered mainly because i need an answer about Tannoy CPA 12 dual concentrics.
I had to send them of for repair of the voice coil and now they are back i found out i lost the photo's i made of the wiring.
So i am a bit stuck. Also, there is a separate piece of glass (with wire) and two cables coming from it..............
I am lost here...... Is there anyone who knows the connections of the colord wires to the speaker????????
I really do not want to blow them up (again).... i'm such a doofus concerning electronics - sigh.
Want those nice speakers hooked up to Rodec mixer and Technics 1210. Only thing i still want is a good amp.
But i found one... from 1968. Or should i buy the 120 watt Denon...... hmmm, haven't made my mind up yet.
Anyway. Hope to read more on audio stuff.
Greetings Gilbert (Qibote is a name given to my by my Mandarin teacher - which i did not learn after all....)

Hello Cal, here are some pictures.
I looked at it today and now my guess is that i connect the colors to the corresponding places. The glass piece has two wires (black and white). Am i correct in my assumption that the Black goes on the black on speaker and is the connected to the Yellow cable, the only cable NOT marked on the speaker.......
See attached files.

Okay, my eyes cannot reverse engineer it but it does look as though the colour coding on the driver itself gives you the answer.
The glass spare piece is a thermal resistor aka a light bulb. It's job is to reduce power to the driver as the volume increases and eventually act as a fuse when things get out of hand. When you say spare, is there one in the circuit as well and this was just stored inside the cabinet? If not it's a guess as to whether it connects to both drivers or just the tweeter.
When you hook the XO wires up just make sure the volume is right down before testing and bring it up slowly. If you have it right or even wrong, it should be obvious.
Definitely looks like the brown wire is the bass + and the blue is bass -

Hi Call, Thanks for your reply. The glass resistor is not a spare as in 'an extra'. It is part of the wiring. Do you believe that my reasoning about the connecting the coloured wires to the brown, blue and green connectors on the speaker and the connect the black thread of the glass resistance to the black connector which then leaves only an unattached yellow wire of which i think it should connect to the white wire of the glass resistanc. In that way all the colorcodes match and the only 'slightly wild' guess is connecting white to yellow.
Anyway i could take it to an electronics guy. He does not know Tannoy speakers but he surely has more knowhow than me.
And thanks for pointing out to set volume low when testing. I sure hope it will not blow out the speaker or parts of it.....
Thank you very much. Gilbert

If guessing, I would say the lightbulb is used on the tweeter. That means you will plug the black wire into the male spade part of the bulb and the other end onto the black terminal of the tweeter.
If something doesn’t work then take this over to the Multi Way forum and maybe someone knows Tannoy.
Yes yellow wire goes from attenuator from the backside, blue and green is negative terminal, green for tweeter and blue for bass, brown is positie terminal of the bass, picture tells that. So remaining is bulb with black and white wire,, yellow wire have new clamp probably because of some modifications related to bulb, somebody added bulb, in my opinion bulb with black wires - white goes to the yellow wire and black wire finaly goes to the tweeter positive terminal. : )
Hello Cal and Savan, so i take from your replies that my assumption might be correct
- all colorwires to positions marked on speaker and bulb with black to speaker and white into Yellow cablesocket.
Would it be safe to try this and from low volume test it.............or could it damage the system?
In that case i want to take the cabinets and the tweeters to an electronics shop and ask if they can fix it.
Greetings, Gilbert

Someone messed something up, the bulb is not a factory part of that sound box, and it's questionable whether everything else is factory! If you are unsure go to electronic repair shop
Hi Cal and Savan, to my big surprise i found the photos i took when taking the speaker out.
Indeed is the wiring as i thought. So all the colors to the marked places. Blue and Brown next to each other.
Then Green on one side next to the magnet and Black goes on the other side from where it leads to the
glas bulb and then the white coming from that goes into Yellow.
With the photos found - deep in my drive - i now can connect everything.
One question remains. There was a sticky grey paste on the magnet which, as you can see on the photo
teared some pliewood / board of from the cabinet. Do you know if i need to replace that, and if so...with what?
Or would a piece of foam do the trick as well?
Many thanks for the suggestions...... hope that all works out well so i can enjoy my Tannoys again.
