My name is Cilla. My Dad is an ex audio addict - he's been on the wagon now for a number of years - I suppose I must have picked up the bug from him, or perhaps have inherited a genetic abnormality?
I live in a remote part of England. Fortunately, remoteness means home education. 🙂 What is so enjoyable about living here is the silence and a sense of the vast breath of living acoustical space. At the concert hall I'm definitely not a front row gal - I find the presentation to be more industrial than musical. No. The balcony 'up in the gods' for me please. So my first requirement for a replay system is complete silence.
My first DIY effort is 'Cyclops' ( found in Full Range archives) , which I knocked up a while ago.
In the household there are loads and loads of records - I'm always finding new stuff. Beethoven is my absolute favourite. The last movement of the 7th (Carlos Kleiber)....Wow! This is how to live! This is how to be! Recent joyful discoveries include: Varese - puts a big smile on my face; Schoenberg A Survivor From Warsaw - terrifying! Cowboy Junkies - strangely addictive and Jimi Hendrix; Whom to my ears sounds like cross between Pablo Casals and Henryk Szeryng , a truly amazing musician.
Perhaps I'm alone? But I much prefer mono to stereo. For me only mono can convey the strength and physical presence of music - its relentless surge and force, like some great beast frolicking in the mighty ocean. Stereo by contrast, is just spumie sound effects.
My great passion tho' is painting. I know my place and its in the studio. There I can just pop my cheeks at everything and the whole world disappears.
Pop!

I'd say welcome to the forum, but you've been here a while 🙂 Thanx for the intro, it is always nice to know a bit more about our members.
I noted the Cyclops when you 1st posted them

A real piece of artwork... and not many people start with a Lowther.

Pop your cheeks as you please, gallaCilla.
(btw: pardon my bluntless, but did you also happen to notice this corner is visited by raving lunatics only ? )

Cal,
How are you? Judging by your cheery face very well I should say. Building anything big?
Artdrink? I get drunk on art , a.k.a cheep cider.🙂

Geez, I missed your response, sorry 'bout that. Build anything big? Well, I haven't got the room right now but next up is a couple of 12" coax and a helper woofer. Perhaps in the spring. How about you?
Cal,
At the mo' I'm messing around with front loading Cyclops with various horns .... well, with various lampshades actually. When I'm happy, I'll then make a nice one.

Hi Cilla,
Yes and no.
I'm worried I would need too much EQ at the bottom as the helper woofer is a regular long throw bass piston, not a PA driver so I'm thinking the FR wouldn't match at the XO.
The cyclops evolution sounds more than interesting. Same driver? Any pics? Pray tell.

Nothing worth showing at the moment. Just a lampshade, gaffer taped in front of the Lowther.🙂
What could be of interest tho', is when I do make a proper one, I intend to terminate it in a similar manner as shown in this patent: http://www.google.com/patents?vid=USPAT6334505
Semi - OB then?

Hi pdan,
Nice bit of work by Li Ming-Chiang on the patent and a good job of research by you to find it. Thanks for your work and your posting - very interesting. I find your combining art with function to be intriguing and look forward to seeing how your project develops.

I need take a little time to correct an error that I have made in a previous post where I referred to a Li Ming-Chiang. I have discovered that the correct name and title for this person is Dr. Ming-Chiang Li. The good Doctor holds a PhD in physics and is the author several patents. My bad and I offer my humble apologizes to all.

May I provide you with an Enabl clarifier for your Lowther?
Being at the other end of life's trek, I find myself again entertained by thoughts of charcoal sticks and rough rag paper. I feel it will be a quieting moment, when I discover what is left of my muse...

Bud,
I experimented with ENaBL on a EX3, using semi-translucent masking tape. The results were very good. I've since up graded to a EX4, so I need to wait till its well run in before I resume the experiment. However, the thought of putting a plastic coating on a Lowther cone makes me shudder.🙂
Judging by the poem you posted a while back, I would say that you are Muse informed. Perhaps all She needs is a little elbow room?
