This may be a basic question but when using a sub w/ a plate amp and one connects the speaker outputs of the receiver/amp to the low impedence connections on the plate and then back out to the main speakers, is the XO in the plate amp just connected in parrallel with the speakers. What does this do to the impedence seen by the receiver/amp? And is this the same set-up that automotive active XOs use?

The speaker level inputs, are buffered, such that your amp/receiver does not see the impedance of the sub-woofer driver. The speaker level outputs, on many plate amps, have a fixed high-pass crossover (series cap), which will generally cause you amp/receiver to see less of a load, than your main speakers would normally.
