I need some help here, i have Pioneer VSX-1014TX Receiver, it was working just fine for many years, but recently it's selecting the input by itself to "DVD/LD" on repeat .. even if you select any other input like Tape, CD or Tuner, it stays on those inputs for a few seconds and then selects DVD/LD option again .. i have no clue why it's doing that ? i did the factory reset as well but i'm still having the same issue ... there's no other problem, it is producing sound and everything. Looking forward.

Its obvious that your processor chip is getting an erratic signal that isn't easy to trace in a big processor controlled receiver as the circuits are quite complicated as opposed to simpler power amplifiers .
Tracing this isn't a "5 minute job " but first you must get a schematic + a manual showing normal conditions on each pin of the processor plus the change of conditions when a signal is fed to it.
On the other hand it could also be a leaky capacitor making the chip unstable or the signal unstable.
Not easy to determine .

Hi . Check if button for corresponding input is okay ,not shorting , look for schematic , it may help very much . Front panel may have seperate pcb for buttons with its own connector ,try to turn-on without buttons connected ,if thats possible . Visual check front PCB .
Hi duncan2 and ximikas, thanks for your inputs, do you think it could be a the button itself which might need some contact cleaning ?just wondering if that's the case. i'll sure look into the option you you guys spoke about. here's the link of the service manual / schematic .. is it possible for you guys to look into and guide me about which capacitor or competent i might be looking at as well? if that needs a replacement ?

Thats always possible as the signal delay from dirty contacts can confuse a processor its part of the "joys " of a processor controlled hi-fi unit.
Like you computer it needs precise signals ,like hitting two keys on the keyboard and expecting a good result.

Just looked schematic , input select buttons located in "Volume Assy" ,according to manual ,and you may try disconnect connector J7 with amplifer unpowered and then try turn on , volume control and input select buttons should not work ,but that DVD/LD input should not auto select by itself .If it autoselects ,fault is not in volume control board .Need to dig deeper then.
try disconnecting J7 ? which page is that please ?
Page 48 , "3.13 VOLUME, DISPLAY and MULTI JOG ASSYS". Begin from there. You can search inside your pdf viewer ,type text "volume assy" .
