Got my new pioneer catolog today and was looking at there subs. Their recomendation is .50-1.0 sealed box. how can a sub of that size play well in that small of a box? How decent are these subs, they have a 1000 watt RMS!
Typically they trade efficiency to lower the speaker's Vas.
The effect the enclosure has is a function of box volume vs the Vas. By starting with a low Vas, the needed box volume will be correspondingly smaller.
It's all in the math.
