Hey Chris, not my choice really, but since i am retired now,
and so i started accepting tube amps for repairs, keeps me on my toes....
there are a lot of models here and one of the favorites is the sansui AU-111 integrated...

i did an SCA-35 recently too, came with most of the psu parts missing...
nailed that one too....

Hi AJT,
Yes, the AU-111 is a neat amp. Heavy as sin though. Now that I've also done a lot of tube amp repairs, I can really do a nice job on mine. I'll need my friend to get it on the bench as it weighs a solid 80 pounds, maybe more.

I just did a Pioneer SM-83. They ran all the inputs, high and low level, through the same amplifier stage, only changing the EQ. I had phono-like hum on every input but tape. That was the only high level input on the thing. I changed the wiring to feed the phono amp with fixed EQ into the selector switch as a high level input, and the other inputs then were switched normally. Still sounds very bass heavy, treble cut.

That one used 7189 output tubes (like a 6BQ5) for an output of 27 (claimed) wpc output.

To be charitable, 27 WPC is inflated. 20 honest WPC can be squeezed out of real 7189s. Check out the Sherwood S5000. We are fortunate to have a current production tube, which is a genuine 7189 equivalent. It's the Russian 6p14p-ev, AKA EL84M.
