Help with Pioneer PL-518 turntable please,
I just acquired a vintage PL-518 turntable. I also down loaded free copies of the service and owners manul from the vinyl engine.
Issue: When I unclamp the tone arm and gently push & pull tonearm from front to back and there's some slop - possibly 1/16th or more. Obviously the arm should swivel up/down, and to/from the platter center. It does this fine. The slop seems to be at the the tonearm base which goes into the chassis.
Note, I tried the same push & pull test on my cheapo Pioneer PL-12D. There's no slop whatsoever.
Regarding the PL-518 'slop' concern, is this a problem? Should there be any slop? If so, what to do to correct it?
Thanks,
Pdspecl
