Greetings, Happy New Year
I purchased a Pioneer PL-50 arm and have installed and adjusted it and the horizontal arm movement is quite stiff. I've adjusted the antiskate to zero, it doesn't affect the stiffness, it's stiff enough to skip a record. Any ideas on what could be the reason, anything I could adjust, clean etc, to solve it?
Thanks

You will find that the grease used to work the automatic slider mechanism under the deck has dried out. Dismantle the deck and clean with alcohol, (Vodka and a clean cloth is quite good but don't use too much or there won't be enough left in the glass to drink). Check the arm bearing as well. Do not re grease. Leave dry or use graphite or silicon polish otherwise you will have to clean it off again in the future!
Thanks for the reply
I no longer have the arm lift, I installed the arm on a Pioneer PL-25 and removed the arm lift as part of the necessary surgery; When carrying the turntable on it's side (of course, without the platter installed, mistake to carry it that way regardless), the arm's center shaft accidently 'popped out'; this arm is new to me, so I froze, not knowing what to do, it didn't want to go back in, so I thought, well I might as well pull it the rest of the way out, and see if I could fix it; Of course, it just needed a little more persuasion to 'pop' back in. Inside, I noticed what I take to be 3 bearings on the walls of the shaft housing. Should I lube those? Is that what you're describing to lube with graphite?
Thanks

I just remembered, I have a big tub of Molybdenum Disulfide ('dry slide') would that work on the arm shaft bearings?
