Pioneer DV655A Tweaks

Hi,

Anyone has upgrade Pioneer DV655A. Any suggestion would be most grateful. Any got a copy of service manual, would appreciate if someone could email a copy to me, thanks in advance.

I modified this DVD player 3 years ago. The main upgrade was a separate discrete +11V analog power supply. I also modified SMPS where I used Philips glass-passivated diodes, replaced some caps and similar... I used copper plates for shielding and got rid-of connectors and internal wiring between SMPS board and main board (replaced with some solid silver ribbons, soldered at both ends!). The output coupling caps were replaced as well with my favourite dirt-cheap Black Gates type C 4.7uF. The mechanism and surrounding membrane cable connectors were treated to improve conductivity (I developed a method to increase conductivity with this type of connectors / membrane ribbon cables).

I have the user manual which I ordered from Pioneer - but it is a hard copy manual... You should be able to obtain the manual from your local Pioneer Service Dep. Maybe someone else on this forum has a pdf version...

Thanks Boky, Btw, did you change the clock as well. My intention is just to mod the audio section only. Before I start with the mod, might as well get as much info as possible.

I remember now that I was considering the same thing. This is why I ordered the Service Manual - to be able to check the circuit diagram. The clock signals were all generated and distributed to various users inside one chip, fed by Xtal (I think it was 8 MHz or something...) The whole thing looked to me quite well designed - so I decided that modifying the clock was not worth-while option...

However, If I manage to dig-out the Service Manual, I will scan the circuit diagram to pdf and e-mail it to you. That's if I can find it... because I've already tried with no luck, unfortunately... You could replace the Xtal with low jitter clock oscillator for sure!

Someone may have the Service Manual in pdf form…

Thank you again for your fast reply. Do you have any preference to a specific caps in the mods. As I did in my last mods of my NAD CD542, for power supply, I used Panasonic FM, digital, Sanyo OS-CON SH and Audio with Blackgates N Series.

Your capacitor choices seem perfect to me. I use Black Gates C for sound coupling on cheap, FK and Nx types for decoupling... and some Vishay’s as well. Try 0.1uF / 50V Black Gate Nx type for Vcc / Vee decoupling - fantastic.
