I was thinking of around 6” to 6.5” drivers.
These aren’t for Dave, they are for the OP. Dave made a good recommendation but I think It will be hard to find a traditional driver thin enough to fit in a picture frame. I think this is a great use for the exciter type of driver. They are thin and offer reasonably good sound, especially in a loudspeaker of OP’s dimensions.
If you want to go with traditional drivers I would use some of those mini-drivers in an array of maybe 8–2” drivers. Like these: https://www.parts-express.com/Dayto...eaker-Transducer-20W-4-Ohm-295-236?quantity=1

Looks nice. Is it a full range? Why are full range rare in car audio? Cause they beam too much at high frequency?

That's a big ask for a slimline driver. I've unearthed this Dayton Audio driver which is 2" in depth and around 4" in diameter:

EDIT: You can wire two in series in each enclosure to double up the radiating area.
It's also available in a less sensitive 8 ohm version (DMA105-8).

Another wall mounted speaker that may be of interest.

Wow! Those are some impressive specs for such a slim speaker. I am intrigued!https://www.visaton.de/en/products/2-way-speakers/portrait

Sorry Arthur! 😳
I quoted you, but my comment was aimed at datzent83 - something I should have made clear by referring to him by name in my post.
Is your seating against the wall where these will be mounted?.......and if so,, is it a sofa or is it stand alone chairs or recliners?Wow! Those are some impressive specs for such a slim speaker. I am intrigued!
Any recommendations for a slimiest full range driver?
Markaudio Pluvia 7HD would be topof the list. CHN-50 on a tight budget.

DMLs have trouble with bass. Not a FR.

Here is an example of a wallmount Fonken i did (a long time ago), is as thin as we have become comfortable with. It is 13 litre, the P7HD need 9 litres, CHN-50 2.5 litre.
The uggestion of a cornucopia is a very good one. The structure allows use of very thin material, a big boon to keeping things cloe to the wall.

True, but nothing you hang on the wall will be full range. Well, not in my view. Also, for surround you don’t really need full range side and rear speakers in the average living room, down to 100hz should be OK. It all depends on what the OP wants, I’m just spitballing. The OP gave a very restrictive set of size requirements and a DML design would work fine, and they could actually look like pictures rather than bumps on the wall. HiFi? Maybe not, but they would work OK for movies.DMLs have trouble with bass. Not a FR.

No problem. 😁Sorry Arthur! 😳

As in 20-20kHz? VERY few loudspeaker go that low, but wall is not an impediment. It can actually help extend the bottom.
But for surround, going low enuff to meet the woofer should be sufficient.

Ikea sells one made by Sonus. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/symfonisk-picture-frame-w-sonos-wi-fi-speaker-black-smart-40487320/
That got me thinking, how thin can we go without weird physics effects happening? For example a driver needs a 1cuft box but it’s 36”x48”x1” deep. Too philosophical, I’ll have to think about that a while.is as thin as we have become comfortable with.

Sonos speakers are not great performers — and at that price? I do have a Sonos SoundBass that suppoedly has a large number of small FRs and 10 Class D amps. Still haven’t figured out how to get inside.
