Hi Atisley
beautyful work. Personally however, i never liked the mix of round with square horns. Aesthetically it simply does not please me.
there were some frenche guys which tried to go commercial, but its for some years i have not seen anything from them anymore. I guess they did not have commercial success.
I totally agree with you...which is why this horn is mated to a Yuichi 290 and custom round wood turned tweeter...which I also build as a trio.
In this set-up Radian Berylium drivers were used for the mids, and vintage JBLs for the HF. Sim'd and tested xovers were built using quality parts.
Kind regards.

Are there no port tubes in the designs, just holes in the back? Do you have a drawing with meassures on it?
Andrew, is the Yuichi 23cm tall and do you cross around 600Hz? It would make a good comparison for a mid horn I'm working on.

That is one of the nicest (sharp looking!!) set ups I have seen. Makes me just want to sit down, relax with a cold one, and enjoy the music !!
Congratulations on a very cool installation !
The ports have been designed based on Altec literature...plus with 4, you can close off one or two to adjust depending on driver. Are there no port tubes in the designs, just holes in the back? Do you have a drawing with meassures on it?
PM me if interested in CAD/CNC.

Maybe 700Hz from memory. The height is per Yuichi design, I use 3 layers of 24mm, plus 19mm for the bottom, then 50mm in the horn centre, then 24x3 plus 19 on top = 232mm.Andrew, is the Yuichi 23cm tall and do you cross around 600Hz? It would make a good comparison for a mid horn I'm working on.
Lovely sound, from inert heavy build....about 20Kgs each.
See earlier versions in dark stain, Birch Ply.
I used massive Altec 288 1.4 inch drivers on these.

Thanks. Yes they look solid, as if they'd have that carved from stone at the edge of a waterfall, lack of cabinet sound to them.
I notice the aspect of the throat of your lower mid horn. I've been deliberating something with similar angles. Looks around 1:0.577 😉 & making the lower wall the top panel of the bass cabinet.

now that looks very pleasing. Congrats !! Do you intend to paint them ?
I'm building a pair Atisley. I'm using the cast 805b throat adapters to make the 1.4" to 2" square transition. How do they sound? What are your xover points? Are your 515 horns as efficient? Or close?

Thanks...that's very kind of you to say that. I've been playing around with horns for 20 years...started with Lowther. Have built many Tannoy horns, GRF etc....plus Cessaro/Trio clones.
My own system is Azura 340Hz horns, and a mix of bass units....today, for example, I setp up a new OB with pristine Altec 420A biflex 16-inch drivers.
I'm authorised to build the Carfrae Little Big Horn, plus have built large bass horns for GOTO USA.
I describe myself as an innovator/creator...who's learnt from practical experience. I have limited technical skills/tools...but use CAD/CNC where I can to make things easier. I've made lots of mistakes along the way...but enjoy the hobby. My full time job is as an executive for a large church based provider of welfare for the disabled/homeless/aged etc.

I used P-Audio 1.4 to 2.0 inch adapters for the Altecs. For the wooden inner throat section, I use bog (hard putty) to shape it from square to round...using file and sanding. A bit tricky but OK.
Xover was around 700...but could be from 500 to 1,000 depending on driver.
The top horns are higher sentitivity than the bass horn, so some resistance/attentuation required.

They have been stained.
See also my attempt at a Cessary/Trio clone...although, in this pic, the large horn was mounted up high.

My wife has asked me (and I agree) to praise the middle right one (p31) for its simple elegance.
[She said, why can't you ..something, I might not have been listening 😉]

That is my Carfrae "Lite" product...it's a Carfrae Little Big Horn without powered sub.
I also like the lines...as the sides integrate nicely into the base section.
This is all available via CAD/CNC, even the decorative legs and baffle pieces are CNC'd.
I haven't seen one yet fully built...those pics was a kit being sent to Canada.

This version of my Altec bass horn (called the 820, due to cab height), will sit upright...but it can also sit horizontally.
Greets!
Just saw this and to an Altec fan, quite confusing as it bears no similarity to the legendary Altec 820 corner horn:

I WAs only using the 820 number for my own project, not to imitate altec's corner cab.
