Phrugal Pencil

Scott, before I proceed with building this thing I thought it a good idea to ask of your expertise.
To gain WAF I am trying to add the look/form of the Frugel-Horn to the close-to-wall placement ability of the Pencils. I have the FH3s and FHLs and my better half very much favors the aesthetics of the Frugels.
as per the attached drawing, I have kept the critical dimensions of the pencil, excluding the chamber dimensions… the area is pencil-consistent but this has a slight but definite expanding taper. How detrimental is this taper? … I am a mediocre woodworker at best- certainly not a speaker designer.

Pete

Per the above. Build to a parallelogram rather than tapering the box -job-jobbed.

To preempt any questions, because I suspect there will be some -yes. I designed a number some years ago, and derived my own alignment. They're waiting in the wings, as it were.
Scott,Dave, Jeff, Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate the course correction. NON- tapered, straight line it will be. With this correction I may not like the faux-frugll form quite as well but I trust I will like what I will hear.

That's why I said, if you skew it to a parallelogram, you get the sloping front baffle you presumably are after. You're just sloping the rear baffle as well to maintain the cross-section.

These took nearly one year to complete but finally they are finished. I like the way they came out... both in sound and appearance. The intent of making these Pencils in the form of a Frugel-Horn was to increase spousal approval... mission accomplished. With the Pluvia 11 drivers they certainly sound fuller, relative to my FH3s and my FHLs. The pronounced midrange is very welcome! Thanks again Scott, Dave, and Chris for helping bless our home with beautiful music!

Nandappe, the look of your cabinet is very nice, with no wasted space. Ok, the Pensil I constructed has excess baggage but I know the Pensil design is a tested and recommended design. If you have not built what you have drawn yet please do...again, it has attractive lines.

Zman, I used a sheet plus of 3/4 birch. The front baffle is dyed birch and the top and sides are birch covered with unbacked walnut veneer. I haven’t figured out yet how to iron-on unbacked veneer without having it split so I vacuum bagged each panel then clamped/glued together. The edges have curly walnut. As has been said before... they look better than the photo shows...the camera didn’t capture the figure very well.
