my 'last' EF86 linestage I'll ever build - being sold to a friend of mine. I've searched this thread and I don't think I've posted this yet.
this was a budget unit - lots of Allied Electronic parts, a left-over Elma switch, HK sourced volume control, Obbligato couplers, etc. Metal work is Front Panel Express. Woodwork was done by a friend of mine who has taken up carpentry as a hobby.
Circuit is an EF86 triode connected, DC coupled to a 6922 White Cathode Follower. The WCF has enough grunt where it also can drive a pair of headphones and this preamp will mostly be used for this application.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Heres my "boozhound amp". Its my first tube amp. Its still little bit in progress so more pictures coming later..

Another boozehound on the way soon...got the hell in and re-started my chassis with proper drill press, pneumatic guillotine...muuuuch easier!! I just need some of those fancy decorative things Magnus has!

Nice. I like the 'rails'. Do they serve dual purpose as decorative and heat sink?

Thanks🙂 The rails serve mostly as decorative, but they do protect the tubes little bit, and its easy to grab those if i want to move the amp around.
Chassis is a Hammond 1441-22 and its made of quite thick steel.. Only real bad thing is that its bottomless. I need to do something about it.

I think its about 1mm thick.. 1.5 is really thick, that should be well enough for this size amp.
Im playing my amp right now for the first time.. I didnt know tube amps smell..I love it 😀

Shellac on your transformers heating up?
Heh my chassis is 1.5mm, but 500mm x 300mm and has about 5KG of iron on it, so I have to brace it from the inside somehow 😛

Damn nice work.
The shellac is usually used to insulate the windings of the transfomer, observe the brown stuff. It's also behind hte paper on the bigger transformer

Thanks! Okey now i get it😀 Im not sure what smell that was, but it was good 😉 I would guess tubes....maybe?
Nice clean work.
Those stick-on wire ties with the little squares. Are you worried about the adhesive drying out? I have a whole bag and was thinking of doing the same thing but was afraid of that.

Thanks! It came up to my mind too, but we will have to wait and see. They have lasted inside my pc for over year now. Its very hard to get them off after once placed.
Don't think it has been used for a long long time. These days they use varnish. The shellac is usually used to insulate the windings

Thanks, well I am using old russian tubes, so need to change to new ones. No problem with heat. No heat inside, and outside is ok. The paint still fits in place 😉
Sound... not same as LM1875 😉 It's different. Still working with fullrange speakers. To say the truth, no special parts inside, except ROE capacitors.
Now working with Zen Headphone Amplifier. Need chassis.
