Hi,
I have a mc only phono preamp, that from time to time, refuses to sing. And sing it is.
It is an Elector design from the mid 80's. It features a balanced input and the active devices are relaively old school, but respectable non the less. BB OP 27.
It is made with near the top of the food chain materials, bar two small polyester capacitors that decouple power supply lines.
Upon firing up the unit the one channel is sometimes muted, and sometimes not. Being operated with a removable top,and accidentally touching the small poly cap one day,it came back to life. The same thing goes on for a month or so now.
Not being an electronics engineer,I seek friendly advice,of what might be the problem.
Any input will be gladly appreciated.
BTW. The preamp sounds fantastic to my ears, and I want it back in circulation.
Thanks in advance
B.L.

Exchange or resolder the poly cap. Is the OP27 hot or very warm ?
Thanks Mr. J.G. for the instant diagnosis and the proposed solution. It was the cap. I 've change them with new ones (both channels) and it is back to normal.
Obliged
