Hi all
Just bought this projector - it was described as bulb "gone" so I (wrongly) assumed the bulb had blown. It wasnt - it was missing - so all im left with is the gap where it should go and the pins ready for connection!!
This has done my plans for just buying the replacement lamp at a reasonable cost as I havent got the housing/hoilder for the lamp!!
Looking around the web it may cost me lots to get it sorted unless anyone has any ideas? Ive read some bits here about retrofitting other lamps etc.. Does anyone have any experience with this model and can give me some tips. Please!!!
Thanks in advance!!

Also - I have just put a power lead in and ....nothing? Should the unit power up and tell me that no lamp is present or will it just do nothing without a lamp!!??
idea or two
Just an idea...
I don't know how big of a city you live in but you could try calling around to some of the local repair shops or new projector dealers that sell replacement bulbs and ask if they have any old bulbs that they recently replaced that match your Phillips projector. If you luck out and they had one you might be able to purchase it for way less than the $300 - $400 of a new bulb. Or you might find the same projector that is totally busted up off the internet but has the cage and reflector. Member YWH sells replacemnet bulbs and he does have some reflectors but I don't know if he can get a cage that would fit. Check out...

I think the site is run by 18wheeler (also a member) in conjuction with YWH. I hope those ideas help

Some projectors will power on without a bulb some will not. It sounds like your is one of those that will not. Search using "retrofitting" or similar words. There are a couple of people that have bypassed or removed the circuitry that detect if the lamp has fired so that they can use whatever bulb and ballast they want.

Well - Ive made loads of phone calls and done lots of searching -
Phillips told me that it is normal to get no power through the projector without a lamp housing inserted - What a load of rubbish they talk!! I decided to whip the casing off to look inside the machine and straight away noticed that a fuse was missing on the power supply board - so I replaced this and now it puts the lamp and temp lights on !!. Im really not sure if anything else should be happening - fans spinning etc.. but at least its a start!!
Searching the web I found a nice APO lamp and housing for £90 canadian but they dont ship to the UK and when I rang them they say they are not trading at the moment anyway??
Spoke to a few local distributors here in the UK and I am looking at £225 at the cheapest for an EPO lamp - I have a feeling that they may be available cheaper overseas but Spanish/German and French are all beyond me so I cant try to get one from a nearby country!!!
Any suggestions or more technical info on this model would be appreciated!

The Phillips model number for the lamp is
LCA3115
I don't know how to find out if there are other projectors that use that exact same lamp. Maybe someone else knows of a way other than just calling Phillips.
Here in the US, pricegrabber found a couple of merchants that sell it for ~$265US. ~£135

I don't know if they will ship to the UK but maybe.

Just an update!!
Managed to get a conversation with a phillips engineer - how lucky am I ?? lol - Anyway - after some discussions I found out that a thermistor is missing - from the top of the lamp module compartment - shorted this out to simulate the circuit being correctly made and it fires up as it should - ballast tries to start a lamp (if fitted) 3 times and then the lamp light stays on when it fails. The fans all start so its looking promising!!
I could retrofit another light source but I am going to have to work out how the control circuit works - There is a 3 pim low voltage connector that goes from the main pcb to the ballast - I presume this tells the lamp is working and stops the ballast trying to ignite the lamp again!!
Can anyone confirm this and the way to short this to tell the main pcb that the lamp is lit!?

Right.
Two signals are transmitted between ballast and main board.
1. to ballast:turn light on/off
2. from ballast: light is on/off
Just check the optocouplers on the ballast near the connector to find out which two cables you must shorten.
