Hi,
have some problems with Philips CD880. Disc engine rotates anything else is dead -no display ,buttons don't work. This problem was earlier but resoldering helped .Now problem the same and resoldering mdidn't help .
Could someone tell which signals & need to have that player starts to work .& think first must be reset to servo processor and oscillator work but don't have service manual.
Thanks
Darius

Hi
I had this problem recently and traced it to the system EPROM (the chip with a sticker on it such as "P203") not being properly seated in its socket. In fact, this ic socket is the worst one I have ever seen for poor contacts, being composed of an upper and lower section. You'll get a much better contact if the top half of this socket is removed and the chip reseated into the lower half.

Thanks for answer. Checked and cleaned socket half removed all contacts from ROM to other chips are good.
Other suggestions, please.

Poynton, thanks for the manual. My problem with the CD880 was that it read burned CDs perfectly, all of them, even CD-RWs, but wouldn't read some 100-% original CDs. I decided to fix it but making a long and painful story short burned the display. Now it glows like Broadway (or I should say Arbat - a major street in Moscow) but nothing works. Gave it to a friend, the manual might come in handy.
