Well, not exactly as yours was able to play CDR's before.
One last thing (you probably know) : Try CDR's from different brands and burnings. They can make a HUGE difference.
Just compare the RF amplitude from CDR's and commercial CD's...

Well, pin 4 is a reference voltage input which is unconnected in the data sheet application example as well as all players I know of. Pins 5 and 6 are diode signal inputs. Does this tweak alter the reference voltage or the bias point of the diodes?
I tried it (wasn't easy to find these large resitors in my scrapboxes), and it made things slightly worse so I removed them again. Thanks anyway!
