hello
I own an old tda1541A Philips cd630 and I'm planning to improve the analog output . I had from Audiofanatic (thanks again!) the schematics and I was thinking if it's possible use the player as a DAC too adding a digital input ...but I don't know neither from where begin.
Please somebody have ever tried that on this cdp or on other or have ever thought on it?
thankyou VERY much in advance

Hi,
Don't think it's the best way to waste your time, moreover to use CD630 as standalone DAC. I made a lot, even output transformers as I/U, more power transfomers and etc., but the real advantage is to use it just like transport with separated power supply for SAA7220 (as it carries the digital out and timing) and use TCKO clock. Maybe I'm just not a fun of TDA1541.

Thankyou Valery, it's interesting. There are a lot of 1541 fans here around. and I confess you that I like it.
What dac do you prefer, for your experience?
btw do you think it could be difficult add a digital input?
thanks for your reply

Switching between the SPDIF receiver and the SAA7210 or whatever chip precedes the SAA7220 in the CD630 is an easy task so long as you deal with the clocking issues.
As part of the CD player the SAA7220 is the clock generator. Used with a SPDIF input the receiver is the generator and the SAA7220 receives the clock from it.
If you have a schematic for the CD630 or know whether or not the SAA7210 is present and know the SPDIF receiver you plan to use, I can draw you a rough schematic.

There are SAA7310 + SAA7220 + TDA1541A chips inside.
Right now I have Musical Fidelity A3/24, Linn Numerik & Tent Lab's (very cutted version, just digital + I/U transformers) DAC's. If we choose MF as "control" then Linn has a darker sound with a little less scene, but bodily vocal and Tent Labs has the advatages of both. Still don't know which to choose but Tent Labs remains as I build it by myself (thanks to Guido).

Ahh, I see. I meant the SPDIF receiver you plan to use for the input. AK4116/7, CS8412/4, CS8415/6, DIR1701/3, DIR9001 are all possible examples.

Not me, zigo3 wants to do that. I want to synchronize Philips transport with Numerik DAC (mostly just to understand how). As I wondered from dobbie-t info the Numerik SYNC OUT cariies WORD CLOCK with 0-10 v level. Will greately appreciate your help if you can explain me how to organize WORD CLOCK input in CD if there're SAA7310 + SAA7220 chips. I'm a newcomer in digital. I have complete service manual on my tested Philips.

My mistake. Do you know the frequency of the sync signal, if it is indeed a sync signal ? I've just seen an article that states that it is a DC control voltage aimed at controlling the VCXO in the Karik.

It's look like that this is WCKO signal from pin 27 of DF1700 (output timing control).

That being the case, you will need a VCXO/PLL to lock the CD630 system clock to the incoming 44K1 reference voltage.

- philips cd630 tda1541a. what about add a digital input?
