Ok, you had positioned your woofer forward of the 'dome' tweeter on a baffle thicker than the tweeter baffle... Time alignment was the goal, and you found the crossover was easier to implement. Then your next project is a speaker with a horn mounted hi-freq. driver the mouth of the horn is flush with the baffle that the woofer is mounted, would this be considered time alignment as well? Where does the sound of a horn loaded hi-freq. system emanate from?
Yes, the HF is delayed WRT to the woofer assuming its acoustic center is forward of the tweeter's.
The acoustic center of a typical compression driver is on its phase plug, though historically was simpler to just tell folks to line up the voice coils in the vertical plane and this offset gap is the actual delay.

You might want to go higher order on the woofer to delay it. It's fortunate if you can cross the CD lower than a dome as wavelength increases, but for this you need a suitable horn.
Thank you GM. and Allen B for your response. Back in 2012 I had a speaker with tweeter mounted on the top of the cabinet. This configuration sounded very good with soundstage and clarity, but most of all after fussing about permanent location I installed it back 1.5" from the front baffle. To my surprise it actually gave depth to the music like live music was played in a large hall or stadium. This "depth" is what I am hoping to achieve with the tweeter horn location relative to the woofer vc.... BTW GM what does WRT mean?
A suitable horn? Ok, I do have a JBL 2426H driver with matching horn 126-00011- 00 if this is the correct model # . However it is a JBL horn. I am also using a ROSSO-6MW150D for midrange duty and a JBL 2235H woofer for low frequency. I was warned by friends that a 3-way is very difficult to get 'right' but being a hobby , I am not under any time limits.....
