I'm about to assemble some smallish/bookshelf two-ways and they will have active crossovers, because obviously.
I am intending to use the classic Elliott active BSC circuit but wondered if its phase response is an issue, since it basically shifts right through the middle of the voice-intelligibility range with my small baffle.
Does it matter? If so, is there a better solution?

This is not something to see as a problem, IMO.
If you want somewhere to concentrate you attention it should be to eliminate, or to at least reorganise the rear energy that is being otherwise just considered 'lost' in the BSC equation.
