I'm hoping that someone has one of these "PGA2311 LCD Volume Remote Control+GOLD RCA Jeff Rowland" and has worked with the external control portion of the board.
On the back of the lcd board there is space for a relay, two external control 3 pin connections and an external 2 pin connection.
I'd like to use a relay to switch the transformer in a power amp on an off.
When the unit powers up you get 5v at the two pin connection, nothing else seems to happen on any of the other pins for external or the relay.
Hopefully you'll see the pic.

I'd like to use a relay to switch the transformer in a power amp. Since I have a 5v signal voltage at the ext pwr ctl I thought I could use that to trigger the relay. When I tried that the display dims. I need some help using the 5v signal or some help understanding what the other EXT. CTL points do.
ot:
How do you like the sound of the PGA2311? Does it have a sound signature or is it fairly neutral?
I am looking at so many options for volume regulation, stepped attenuators of various types, LDR, various chips, want to try something other than alps pot. PGA2310/2311 seems like a reasonable alternative? Should it be buffered?
