They're sonically invisible as point sources when playback is in session.
Does that count? 🙂

makes me think of linda carter in a certain jet plane....

Go with the Mapa Burl Shin.. I'm pretty sure thats the 3rd one you posted... A buddy of mine used it on his project and it looks incredible.. Its so deep and glossy when finished with 7 coats of good laquer. I helped him spray and wet sand between coats PIA but came out looking amazing. FYI: It's really a light wood so make sure it will match the rest of the room, SAP and all 😉

Its not a fairground attraction 🙂
Great airbrush skill regardless.
I was messing around earlier and it looks like silver and black has some potential.
Very modern looking.
Not sure which I prefer, the last one has the excel baffle smoothed into the rest of the cabinet.
I was thinking along similar lines with the veneer, except it would go where the black is and the silver would be black if that makes sense. It gives an idea of shape and form though.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

IMO 1 or 2 (left to right) are the best looking
1 being my favorite... to me that triangle missing isn't attractive

I priced up the spectraflair foolishly thinking it would be cheaper than the Illusion stuff I used before.
Guess how much for a 1ltr tin 😀
£530!!! Yep that right £530 or around $1000, I can buy a pair of ATC supers for just under £800.
The spectraflair is a definite no. Despite how fantastic it may look I can't ignore the fact that when next year comes I'll be moving on and building something else.

They look great. I like the 4th one the best. The angles/shape are already complex enough without adding further unnecessary "trim".ShinOBIWAN said:I was messing around earlier and it looks like silver and black has some potential.

By the way, is the shape purely "artistic" or is there a technical reason for it?

Silver and Black 😎

Here's a wild idea. Black box, machined aluminum front baffle
chrome plated.

brushed alum front like render 1 would be beautiful

If you want to be the clever guy, place a turntable on the
mid/tweeter portion of the box. Adding rotation is ultra cool,
I did this on my line array project. Can't live without it. The
ability to rotate for best imaging is too cool.

I like that one too. I think the cleaner look suits the whole thing more.

Its a bit of both.
But the main technical reason would be standing waves, diffraction and resonances.
I've tried hard to cut down on panel resonance by sub dividing the large panels(side, front and rear) into smaller ones. Then laid a single piece of 9mm MDF over this to give the impression of a single panel used to form any particular wall. Also locked inbetween these small sub panels are crossbraces which connect all the walls together in a matrix fashion. The very first photo at the beginning of this thread show the start of this bracing scheme but quite a bit more hasn't been shown because I've been without a working camera for around a month now after waterlogging it whilst on a break!
The front baffle on the sat is 4" and the bass cabinet has 3.5". Maybe overkill but its a safe bet that its getting towards ideal stiffness.
I'm a great believer in the cabinet's contribution to the sound. Get it right and it shouldn't contribute anything or at least very little in this case.
They are actually pretty much finished from a construction point of view and I really wish I could get some photo's up but until I borrow/steal/buy another camera the CAD renderings will have to do.

The hand held router should have no probs with some 3.5" alu block.

I'd love a CNC mill though.

What about a complex set of pulleys that you can operate with your big toe to achieve the same thing?
Or even better buy a band of spiders monkeys and have them swivel the top bit.
The craziest by far though would be to toe the speakers in like all the rest of us do. 😀

the price of ally will soon put you off - I've just been getting some quotes for 6mm sheet aluminium. Not cheap.
Seriously, paint them matt black and if you still use them in a years time finish them properly.😉
Rob.
Absolutely agree. It amazes me when I see really top notch drivers in a weak, buzzing cabinet.ShinOBIWAN said:
