how "tight is tight" without stressing the basket

As tight as you can get without stressin gthe magnet. Usually easiest if you are a bit shy and then shim as needed with something like veneer or even a o=piece of paper.
Chris got so good at it i rarely had to do anything. Best to leave a side off and get the fit right before putting it on.

Back panel has to be airtight. I recommend closed cel foam tape (drauft exclusion tape). It is usually black. And lots of screws (every 6” or so and including any braces)

My understanding is that the back panel should be air-tight, and this can be achieved with a thin strip of closed cell foam between the back panel and the mounting frame.
