Well, the XLS is a subwoofer, so I wouldn't expect it to go to high. 454Casull is correct, the XLS has earned an excellent reputation, and is used in SL's sub, among others (see Linkwitz Labs )
Hmm.. Maybe I should just shut up about the XLS drivers.
I was talking about speakers with him, and he estimated that I'd get a "fairly decent" speaker from my SLS, HDS, and Scanspeak D2905/9700 drivers. Hmm..
Turns out, his reference makes most systems' performance relative. He's spoiled while listening to Martin Logan Electrostats and other exotic stuff. Now I am beginning to understand why he is less than thrilled about the performance of most "ordinary" divers...
I bet Einstein never considered his theory of relativity getting used in audio, eh? 😉
I guess the evaluation of a drivers performance is all coming down to the reference used for comparison.
Sooo..... We now return to the real world of ordinary people. 😀

Well, I can finally see the new drivers on the Peerless website. Very strange, I guess the new site hadn't fully propagated to the domain name servers. Anyway, they look very nice, a very good assortment. However, I really wish they would make models without the phase plug - it does help off-axis response (the 30° off axis response is nice and flat), but at the expense of a nice bump in the on-axis response. Sort of a no win compromise if you ask me. Anyone know when these will be commonly available? I have a spare pair of tweeters sitting around, this would give me a good excuse to build a new pair of speakers. Also interesting that they are going to Nomex and PP cones, and not to the metal cones...
