Pedja Rogic 1541A DAC Custom-Wound Transformer European Union Group Purchase

Some good news

I got another quotation from a Italian manufacturer, that was suggested to me in a Italian forum for being competent in audio transformers.

The brand is "Tector" (http://www.tector.it/) and the first price is a very good 40€ /pc (or thereabout).

I also got some other quotations but almost all were nearly 80€.

Searching for comments about this manufacturer I found only good ones😀

Being located in Italy would reduce further shipping costs to me, and therefore would make the whole GB more convenient.

What do you think about it?

Cheers

Andrea

Things look OK. Maybe the HT winding can be a single 80V 100 mA and the optional 8V for the reclocker can be omitted ( with a low drop regulator the 6.3 V winding can be used for that ) ?

But right now price is already good for a quality transformer. I am just curious how it will look with 26 wires coming out of it 😉

Hello JP I used a dual 80V secondary to give more flexibility (series or parallel or independent connections) and thus the possibility to use a different type of tube or topology (SRPP, etc).

The reclocker IMHO is a must. I built a couple of DACs and must say that it really improves things.
Probably you can better it using a good clock and bringing it back to the transport (as done in Linn Karik-Numerik combo) but this means heavily modifying the transport.

So I would leave it like that.

Andrea

PS Did anybody give a call at their out-of-the-door manufacturer?

I don't think it was being suggested that the reclocker be dropped (heaven forfend !) but that the 6.3 secondary could be employed.

However, that would mean abandoning anybody's plans for a valve stage. Personally, I'd be prepared to power my planned valve stage with an extra transformer (which I happen to have).

Perhaps we should just keep to the reduced spec version of Pedja's original, if money is tight for the chaps out there.

20 euros is of course an excellent price Andypairo: thank you for your heroic services in the cause of HiFi !!!

Hello,
I know JP wasn't suggesting to drop the reclocker but since more than one member (including myself) is willing to use both Thorsten's output stage and the reclocker I don't think it's wise to drop a secondary. After all I won't be using the 2*17V secondaries but I didn't propose to wipe them out 😀

If one doesn't need a winding he can just leave it open, resulting in a oversized core.

BTW Ctleake where did you read 20€?

If everybody agrees we can count how many of us are willing to buy such a trafo...

Please post on the thread quoting the previous participants

Andypairo 1

Okay, I'm confused. When Andrea produced his template:

Andypairo 1
xxxx 2 <- put your name here

I assumed that the 2 was person 2 not 2 transformers. But the latest list:

Andypairo 1
Ctleake 2
nullspace 3
marco70 1

gives me pause for thought. Does the numeral represent the position of the person in the list, or the number of transformers the person wants ????

If the latter, I should like to amend the list to:

Andypairo 1
Ctleake 1
nullspace 3
marco70 1

But does that leave nullspace on a promise to buy three transformers contrary to his intention?

Andrea, what did you intend?

Hi Andrea --

Any chance you could give me a round number for shipping to the US? Riverton, NJ 08077. Thanks.

Regards,
John

Hello John,
looking at the specs of the "original" trafo this one should weigh, once packed, about 2.5kg.

Shipping costs seem quite expensive (>50€ to USA), I will try to see if the courier we use at my workplace is cheaper.

Will let you know.

In the EU a package up to 3 kgs costs about 25€, up to 5 kg only 28,8€.

Cheers

Andrea
