Iv'e been wondering when a cheap Class D with SMPS would arrive in the pro audio amps market. I guess this is it.
Anyone had any experience with these yet? I suppose they are relatively new. The specs are impressive.

Any amp designers interested in Class-D powered by SMPS should really have a read of the IPR1600 thread over at avsforum.com. Its very interesting as the Peavey IPR designer is in there defending his design.

So whats the take on these ipr 1600s from some more diy amp builders?
To me everything on the AVS forum has to been taken with a grain of salt, because all they care about is true continuous power and bang for buck in the $/watt ratio.

hey guys, anybody seen overall efficiency of that ipr1600? I didn't.. Actually, pro amps can provide rated power only for short term, so this is not a question of power density in an industrial meaning. 😉
Just dredging up an old thread for some opinions. Any opinions on this amp after using it a bit re: sound quality, quiet operation, build quality, etc.? Seems to be quite competitive in price.
I have 2 of them that I bought for PA duties. Haven't got around to using them for that yet though as I am still building speakers.
Iv'e tried them both in my home HiFi, heaps of clean power, fan a bit noisy, blue lights painful. Wouldn't take much modding to make these a killer HT amp though.

I have another Peavey class D amp that has an annoyingly loud fan. Is there a drop in replacement that is nice and quiet? What other mods would you consider for these amps?
Anybody with any further opinions on these? I'm especially curious about percieved differences in sound quality between these and other class D offerings. Are these in the same ballpark sonically with the amps using the Hypex modules?
