Peavey FH-1s

I would have done the same. My wife is very tolerant of my audio hobby and loves taking road trips. It’s an excuse to take a little adventure.

I’m in CT. We got the LaScala bins way upstate in NY. Last summer we drove to GA just to get a pair of SIT-1 amps.

I've had great results with JBL 2226H in my 3-way horns. For the tops, a great combo would be the PRV WG45-50 18" x 10" mid horn with their D2200PH driver crossed at 475Hz if you wanted to do it on the cheap, or their D4500PH-ND driver crossed at 400Hz if you don't mind opening a little more and Dave Ault's MAHL tweeters.
I’m seeing a lot of “magic” in the older threads of using the D2200ph with the ZXPC 1810. Not so concerned on the cheap, as I built the tops to take a Crites/Atlas k55g/v2. They were $500 a pair. I used them to upgrade from K52h’s in my double 15/Cerwin Vega twins and I really don’t want to go back to the K52’s- not that they are a bad driver by no means. I just love the the “bloom” and the lower range in those a55’s- ..

.. those mids made a whole world sound different using the late night “two beers and three minutes of Rush’s 2112” test

Michael Crites has no more of these, so I’m looking for some options.

The PRV WG4550 is a significantly better waveguide than the K400 variants. The only flaw using it with the D2200PH is that it loses directivity as it approaches 400Hz. I crossed mine at 475Hz and it behaved much better, with very little phase distortion. I’ve since changed to the PRV D4400PH-ND and it performs better down to 400Hz.
I’m also using the D2200PH with a pair of elliptical tractrix horns that Mike Boxler printed that are basically a 2“ version of the Fastrac horns and they seem to perform well together down to 400Hz. They’re currently in my cabinets for testing. If I had proper LaScala, they would be a marvelous retrofit into the stock cabinets.

Finished up the cosmetics on the cut down Tractrix’s with the DE10’s. Some JB Weld quick epoxy, Duplicolor high build primer to fill imperfections and finished off in Krylon ColorMaxx flat black. It has more of a black velvet rose color- you ‘80’s era goth people know what I’m talking about. I also spent some time to clean up and polish the 1 inch aluminum hole in the adapter plate. Just lil’ attention to detail things make the project more exciting to do and more pleasing to the eye.

The horn boxes. Or cabinets, if you prefer.

1. ZXPC 18x10 horns, painted in Krylon ColorMaxx flat black to match the Tractrix horns, loaded with PRV D2200Ph’s. I liked that Krylon color that I used on the Tractrix horns, so I painted the big horns using it to match.
2. The cut down Klipsch 5.5 Tractrix horns fitted with B&E DE10’s
3. Crites/AL universal crossovers, recessed into a pocket for easy access and some cheap eye candy.

To get that recessed and framed look for the horns, I used 5 gallon paint sticks.

Still some more work here. I’ll shoot more pics of both of them as I wrap it up.

This is as far as I’m going to go with them for now. I’ll seal them and repaint the backs at a later date.

The original Black Widows are in it, although I replaced the 1/4” jacks using the original hardware and wired the cabinet with 12 gauge. I also filled the holes in the back for the dual jacks and centered one speaker jack in both cabinets. With the AL universal crossover, I see no reason to spend money to change them.
