PCM1702/1704 Capacitors renewing

Have many of them but way more recent and 100 uF 6.3V.

My favorites are AVX TPS series. I make sure to overrate them twice the working voltage at least. Old habits….

Never had a single defective one of those.

I would check if todays 35V rated ones fit for the 20V ones and 16V versions for the 10V rated ones. All in the same capacitance as before.

So finally have the original brand:

Panasonic TE-series... replacement given from Panasonic as CX series (EEFCX1A470R) or 100U/10V (EEFCX1A101R)

@jean-paul: the Panasonic TE-series are listed on the WADAI 27 BOM. As PAN TE Tantalum. IMHO to replace any newer & better who finally are accepted by the PCM1702.

SP-CAP: The Conductive Polymer Aluminum, Electrolytic Capacitors, Surface Mount Type CS/CT/CX series not mentioned as Tantalums..

Also the SC-CAP no any longer recommended. In total 3 per PCM1702 x 8 PCMS1702's as 24 to replace and hopefully I get the culprit.

TPC: as high leakage 🙁

The BOM is not on that picture.

All that 30 year old polar capacitors probably all have long been superseded by better quality versions. Maybe it is a good idea to compare the specs of the old ones with regards to some relevant properties and choose a new part on that specific improved properties. That would be revolutionary to cap rollers 🙂

"Accepted by the PCM1702" ? It is an IC not a person 😉

That is not a technical approach but based on emotions. In such cases advices are never good enough and no new device can replace those emotions either. That is an entirely different world in which I happen not to live in so good luck with repairing the device.

BTW coincidentally there is another thread on about the same and I recalled having to replace the bloody PCM1702 many times. Because of that I avoided devices with them. They themselves may very well be the cause certainly when the device is always on. DAC chips are not designed for decades of 24/7 service. Quite contradictory expensive devices have their DAC chip failing because of this 24/7 powered on reasoning.

So chances are highly likely you will have to fork out many Euros finding new PCM1702 all with the same datecode from those reliable Ebay brokers 🙂 somewhere far in Asia or............horror.... find a new sigma delta DAC.....

YES, in addition, closed box.

And now after the end of the tunnel, one showed glitches so I am searching for a replacement/repair part.
