Where from do you drive these indicator tubes? EM84's need about -20 Vdc at the triode's grid to close the bar completely, a voltage that never can be obtained from the speaker output of a 3 watts amplifier, unless it transforms to an weird high speaker impedance.
Btw, EM84's sadly ain't no cheap indicator tubes anymore, at least not here in Germany, and even if they actually are Russian or Chinese copies.

Btw, the Eastern German EM83 that you mentioned is an interesting tube as well, as it's a twin indicator, hence calls for service in a stereo amp. But it's $$$ or €€€...
