PC based oscilloscope, no-go or go?

Kick starter - scope has 1 volt max input. making a 10GHz attenuator wont be easy. The 30MHz model has 50V max input... But is the BW great enough. many used scopes are on eBay at comparable prices which are very flexible.

I was inches away from buying a good ol' 2CH oscilloscope from China (300$), until i came across this project on kickstarter:

DSLogic - Multifunction Instruments For Everyone by DreamSource Lab — Kickstarter

If we look beyond the need of a PC, i find the project quite neat, plus it only costs 199$ for both logic and oscilloscope function.

EDIT:
Found this aswell: 10 GHz USB Oscilloscope by Darwin Sabanovic — Kickstarter (software could use some love)

The second one is a sampling oscilloscope; probably not what you want (usually only needed for very high bandwidth signals).

It's not entirely clear to me what the memory depth is. It's important because at lower timebase speeds the sampling frequency has to be adjusted so that the number of samples = screen width. The Rigol DS1052E 16 kpts is rather limiting. Another specification that I haven't spotted is trigger sensitivity. It needs to be capable of triggering from an AC signal of a few mV at 30 MHz which isn't so easy. Also the maximum analog sensitvity of 50 mV (per division?) is rather high.
From what I have seen I would prefer the Rigol to the DSLogic.

I have been looking at the Hantek aswell, prices are reasonable even with shipping from China, which is perfect for my student wallet.

You may find great deals on 'scopes at ham radio swapmeets, or listed in club newsletters or websites. The swaps are great sources of parts, too. Hammond transformers still in the box for 25 cents, that sort of thing.

Keep on eye for a good working Tektronix 2467 series scope in Ebay I have seen them for as low as $300 to $400 !!

The "A" are good for 350Mhz and the "B" are rated at 400Mhz.

It is a Very Fine piece of machinery for the price!!!
It is Quad trace analog scope that has on-screen measurement and I think DSO capability's.
If not there are other models that do.
I just saw Tektronix 150Mhz with DSO for $150!

I am gonna snag me one of those sometime!! 😉

jer 🙂
