Silly question #3
Is it a bad idea to go with an 8" woofer and either 2 x passive radiators (or 1 bigger PR) in normal floorstanders?
I like the idea of not having a port (chuff chuff) but I haven't seen any DIY 3-way floorstanding projects with PRs.
2nd question
Is it a bad idea to have an 8" driver, an 8" PR on the same baffle facing forwards and another 8" PR on the side?
Thanks
Any links to floorstander projects with PRs would be good. I've tried searching but the forum search seems to return 100s of threads not relating to the search term!

At these lower frequencies it begins to matter less where on the box you put it. I'm assuming the long dimension on your floor stander isn't going to get involved.
For looks alone I was thinking one below the driver and one in the side...
It’s obviously more expensive than a port but it’s sound quality I’m after but at high volume.
Problem is finding a PR that matches the driver I thought I’d chosen...

Sufficiently large ports do not chuff. This software tells you what size suffices: Flare-it - Free Speaker Design SoftwareI like the idea of not having a port (chuff chuff)
It is OK. A better option is to mount passive radiators on opposite walls, because this reduces cabinet shake.2nd question

Just so we're all clear, a passive radiator is nothing more than an expensive port.
An expensive port that can't chuff and be easily tuned by changing the weight perhaps?

If I model a port that's say 3", it has to be very long so would have to point to the ground. While I don't mind this, I intend putting the crossover in the base so it's easily accessed.
even ports which don't chuff do resonate....
So PR would be a better choice sound quality-wise?
I recently ran across this build using passive radiators and I thought the author did a decent job of illuminating some of the important differences between a port and passive radiator.
