Dear DIY friends,
I'm looking for a Aleph L pre-amp preferably the latest version (1.2)
Off course I've searched this forum for answers how to the discern the different incarnations of this amp.
According to Nelson Pass the latest version the 1.2 has two white leads from the stepped attenuator.
Firstly I thought tehere were only two versions the one with only a passive pot and the one with switches from passive to active at the 3'o' Clock setting.
I deduced the passive one would have no AC inlet but apparently it's not that simple.
My question is how can I discern the different versions of the Aleph L for certain?
Have some pictures attached of two different fronts and theree different insides of the Aleph L to illustrate the problem.

oh boy
it's so Phenomenally Ugly !

- besides fact that I believe there was no completely passive one ( up to one attenuator position it was passive ( not going through gain stage) then routed through gain stage ) , rest is for Papa to chime in

Which one?
Inside or outside or both?
see , both iterations
Thanks I had this service manual but a distant seller won't be able to discern the differences probably.
After some better reading, thanks to you Zen Mod, I detected the basic difference between the 1.0 and (1.1) 1.2 versions:
First incarnation comment from this servicemanual:
"The Aleph L is a simple Mosfet stereo preamplifier having four single-ended inputs and two outputs. Its controls consist of an input selector and a level control. Maximum gain is internally adjustable via a dip switch.
The gain stage of the preamp is a single Mosfet operated common source and biased by a Mosfet constant current source."
Second incarnation comment (ver 1.2) from this servicemanual:
"The Aleph L is a simple Mosfet stereo preamplifier having four single-ended inputs and two outputs. Its controls consist of an input selector and a level control. The volume control is passive up to the 3:00 o’clock position where the gain is unity. At 3:00 o’clock, the connection from input to output is direct, with no components in the signal path, and past the 3:00 o’clock position the unit becomes an active preamp.
The gain stage of the preamp is a single Mosfet operated common source and biased by a Mosfet constant current source."
So now it seems that the first incarnation is all active and only the second from version from 1.1 or 1.2 has the passive part up to the 3:00 o’clock position.
