Parasound CDP-1000 misalligned laser?

My Parasound gave up on playing CDs and after an inspection, I concluded it is likely to be a misaligned laser. It would spin the CD, read the table of contents and then remain stuck on the first song. Cleaned the top lens. Caps on the optical mechanism look good ( just look so, might have a lemon there ). As it reads and I have verified that the laser works by opening the CD, the only remaining possibility is the laser cartridge to have deviated form its original expected position. I know which trimmers set it, but have no scope and according to the manual, I will need one. Is there any other possibility that may be causing this behavior ( excerpt the misalignment )?

I know the lens mechanism contains two lenses, a top thicker one and another thin piece underneath. This one is very likely to be dirty as its never cleaned, but I am not sure if I could open the Sanyo optical mechanism as some others can be opened, any help would be appreciated. Player is the same as CEC 2100 🙂

If the player starts playing and then wont move past a certain point then you need to look at the sled mechanism making sure its free to move. You are limited without a scope and so the best you can do here is perhaps to locate the tracking error signal/amplifier and see whether the voltage across the pickup tracking coils increases as it plays. Also see whether the voltage to the tracking drive motor increases. If it does and the sled doesn't move, then it sounds like you have either a mechanical or motor drive problem.

I apologize, have forgotten to mention that I cleaned the rails and re-greased them with light grease, movement is from point to point. I know this Sanyo mech is bulletproof and chances of one going bad are very limited. The sled moves freely, the laser eye does a triple up and down check, reads the CD contents and remains stuck at play 1. I tried something, if I knock on the CD mech door several times, it will start playing the CD. That made me think of lost alignment. Might be better to call a friend who has a scope and look it up.

An update, I never went on checking it. I forgot it had troubles playing and put a CD in it which it played very well. Since then - its been working fine. Besides, sometimes the door did not close properly before I opened it and after i cleaned the rails and greased them, it all works nicely. Perhaps there was residual cleaning agent ( I use non-alcohol based agent ) on the lens which after some time dried. So, all solved!
