Paradigm blown low pass driver

Hi looking to install a cheap speaker like Timpano
TPT-MD8 8 ohm in place of the stock speaker. Do I need to adjust the cross over cap etc...no help from manufacturer

  • Nominal Diameter8"
  • Power Handling (RMS)130 Watts
  • Power Handling (max)260 Watts
  • Impedance8 ohms
  • Frequency Response80 to 9,500 Hz
  • Sensitivity95 dB 1W/1m
  • Voice Coil Diameter1.5"

Thiele-Small Parameters

  • Resonant Frequency (Fs)72.6 Hz
  • DC Resistance (Re)5.8 ohms
  • Mechanical Q (Qms)19.3
  • Electromagnetic Q (Qes)0.69
  • Total Q (Qts)0.66

No not really I could not find any specs on a 7s at all...just measured the other good speaker resistance and the potential new one is like .7 ohm higher. Im not sure of the crossover point...I guess I will give it a try with new caps and listen...If it dosent work out then I got a couple speakers for car audio...

The resistance of the coil won't help you much. If you get one that is more quiet than the original (lower sensitivity) you can make the tweeter more quiet to match it. Maybe the other way if the tweeter has a resistor?

Not having much luck with uploading a hand drawing but there is a 6.8 micro F cap100v and 3 ohm resistor after inductor feeding into tweeter...it's a vifa d 25 tg-5, 6 ohm and is quite good according to net. I will change out the cap with higher voltage and parallel up a couple mills 6 ohm resistors totaling 24watts in the crossover...120 bucks or so to find out lol

1. Why do you show an inductor at the tweeter terminal?
2. I wouldn't touch the capacitors at this point, if at all.
3. 24W is a lot for a tweeter, but no harm. However, don't you want to wait until you know what to do with them?
4. When you say $120, I hope that isn't for the crossover.

5. What about the sensitivity of the woofers?

The crossover seems overly complicated to me... closest thing I could find is some sort of butterfield circuit...it goes tweeter+...inductor...inductor to ground...cap then resistor..then off to amp+...way above my pay grade lol

The cap and resistor showed signs of heat...probably 30 years old+...so my thinking was get back to better than specs of same value so a speaker change would be the variable right now...and 120 would be two drivers, caps and resistors...I need a good read on crossovers. The woofer is 95db...tweeter 91 I think...if I'm off on the crossover...I think there is plenty of overlap

Hmm. The circuit looks appropriately basic except for the inductor I mentioned. A photo of each side of the crossover might make things a little clearer. Don't overspend on crossover parts. 91dB sounds right for the tweeter, I'd normally expect the woofer to be less than that, but if you're sure then it gives you a start regarding the new one.

What do you want to do? Change the drivers? Do you trust the crossovers as is? I can't see the heat damage, you didn't attach the photo, better yet can you measure it with your meter instead?

If you can trust the crossovers then better not try to do two things at once.

Hi yes doing some research, found a crossover developing software that I'm going to figure out where you input frequency graphs and are able to adjust components....I will get it figured out before I proceed...thanks...will let you know.
