How do you guys recommend to reinforce a crease in the edge of a 8" paper cone, where the cone lost it's rigidity?
1. Wood glue + thin paper on the back side?
2. thin layer of epoxy?
3. other???

1. ModPodge and ZigZag Whites. I’d ModpOdge teh entire front-side of the cone with a bit extra at the crease.

I've been using CA glue to reinforce paper cone creases, it ends up being stronger than the paper and hardly adds additional mass to the cone.
Apply to the rear of the cone (sometimes it can wick through and discolour the front of the cone) and let set.
Repeat if necessary and use in a ventilated area to avoid the fumes potentially damaging your eyes.
Good CA glues are available from

Yes, rolling papers. ie paper that thin.
I have tried lots of coatings for drivers, and for paper cones, i have setting on ModPodge (Puzzlekoat). It is a PVA glue, dries flexible.

I've used Helmer Professional Acid Free glue as it sets clear, is flexible and won't yellow - typically used book binding and documents etc. Also seen people use Aleene's flexible fabric glue. One alternative for paper is Medical Micropore tape, as it is thin but strong and compliant.
Aleene's
Aleene's Original Tacky Glue is a PVA Glue which remains flexible when dry, so it doesn't harden and crack.

Is the crease in the cone or the surround? (paper pleat type) and what driver is it?

Guys, thanks for your responses. The paper cone has a crease, the surround is fabric
It’s a Tannoy v8 woofer.
I ended up using CA glue from the back side. I like that it is absorbed into the crease and kind of soaks into the cone’s damaged area, restoring the rigidity. This seems like an internal structure repair, I don’t know if flexible pva coat is actually an “internal structure” repair.
Does CA glue hold up with age?

Yes, it seems to. Ive been using it for cone crease repairs for over 25 years with no returns.Does CA glue hold up with age?
Ive just done a similar repair on an Audax HT170G2 woofer with the same cone edge crease (common problem for that driver)
Well done!
